What you can do here

Six things, from a vacancy to a worker at their desk

Each card says where it stands today. Nothing here is described as open before it is.

Post a job opportunity

Register your organization and advertise a vacancy, saying whether you would consider someone from abroad and what support you could offer. A listing is labelled registered, and verified only after checks we write down.

For verified employers

Discover international talent

Verified employers can see people who chose to be seen, by occupation group and province, with no name and no contact details, where introductions are open. Your own listings also report their views and clicks.

Assess immigration eligibility

Answer plain questions about your company, the role and the person, and see which work permit routes fit, which need a labour market impact assessment, which are exempt from one, and what each would require of you as the employer.

Evaluate timelines and costs

The government fees each route charges and who pays them, and the processing times IRCC publishes as its own service standard, with the day we read each figure. Estimates for a complete application, never a promise about yours.

Connect and interview

Where introductions are open, verified employers can ask to meet a candidate or let Global Compass ask when a position matches their chosen cutoff. The candidate decides, can decline without a reason, and is never charged for an introduction. Contact details pass only when they accept.

Plan the next steps

What to do first, which documents to gather, and every permit date and condition in one tracker. Take the plan to your own counsel, run the steps yourself, or ask our firm: none of those is a condition of the others.

Looking for people, or looking at one person?

They are different jobs, so they have different starting points. Both are free to begin.

Find talent

I am recruiting internationally

You have vacancies and no one in mind. Advertise the role to people who are already planning a move to Canada, and see what hiring from abroad would involve before you commit to it.

  • Register your organization and list a role
  • Reach candidates who opted in, province by province
  • See the immigration angle on every vacancy
Assess a candidate

I have someone in mind

You have an identified hire, or someone to transfer from an office abroad. Find the work permit routes open to them, what each asks of you, what it costs and roughly how long it takes.

  • Work permit routes, with and without an LMIA
  • Your obligations, documents and government fees
  • Published processing times, with the date we read them
How it works

From a hiring need to a clean application

Your information carries through every step, so you never have to start over.

1

Say what you need

List a vacancy, or describe the role and the person you already have in mind. Plain questions, by typing or talking, and only what matters for the answer.

2

See the routes, the cost and the time

Our rules engine checks your answers against rules our lawyers approve, and a lawyer reviews anything unusual before you see it.

3

Decide, then keep track

Take the plan to your own counsel, run the steps yourself, or ask our firm, and keep every permit date and condition in the compliance tracker.

Talent discovery

Reach people who are already planning a move here

List a role and it is read by people whose own immigration plan points at Canada. Candidate discovery and introductions open province by province, once our lawyers confirm the recruitment rules there, and a candidate is never charged for either.

What a listing carries
  • The role, the place, the pay where you give it, and whether you would consider someone from abroad
  • What the job could support: the programs it fits, and what it would change in a candidate’s score
  • Whether the pay clears the province’s high-wage threshold for a labour market impact assessment
Immigration assessment

What an assessment tells you about one candidate

For a person you are considering, whether you found them here or already know them, an assessment answers the questions a hiring decision actually turns on.

  • The work permit routes open to this person in this role, and the ones that are not
  • Whether a route needs a labour market impact assessment or is exempt from one, and on what ground
  • What the route asks of you: the wage, the recruitment, the offer and the conditions you take on
  • The documents you and the worker would each have to produce
  • The government fees each route charges, and who pays them
  • The processing times the government publishes, with the day we read them
  • What to do first, what waits on something else, and every date worth watching
  • A copy written for the worker, which you can share with them, see the opens of, and withdraw at any time

An assessment is prepared automatically from your answers, against rules our lawyers approve, and a lawyer reviews anything unusual before it reaches you. That is not the same as individualized legal advice about your company and your candidate, and it is not a substitute for it.

Processing times are the service standards the government publishes for a complete application, read on the date shown beside them. They are estimates, not guarantees, and only the government decides.

You are never required to retain a Global Compass lawyer. Take the assessment to your own counsel, handle the steps you are comfortable with yourself, or ask our firm to act: the report is yours either way.

Workforce planning and compliance

Every permit date and condition, in one place

A qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation can earn Express Entry points without an LMIA. The worker still needs the right work permit, which may need one.

Questions

What employers ask us

Is this legal advice?

Not on its own. Your preliminary employer assessment is based only on your answers and on rules our lawyers approve, but it isn’t a full legal opinion, and there’s no lawyer and client relationship unless you sign a written agreement. For advice on your situation, ask for a strategy consultation.

Who reviews the assessment?

Our lawyers approve the rules. When an assessment has anything unusual, such as a judgment call or a close deadline, a lawyer reviews and can correct it before it is released to you.

Do I need an account?

No, you can start the assessment right away. Create a free employer account to use the compliance tracker and to come back from any device.

How much does it cost?

Starting is free. Fees for a strategy consultation or ongoing support are explained upfront, before you commit to anything.

What does the compliance tracker do?

It keeps each foreign worker’s permit type, dates and conditions in one place. Permits expiring within 120 days are flagged, those within 30 days most urgently, along with passports that expire first and extensions you’ve applied for. You see the flags when you open the tracker; it doesn’t send reminders yet.

Is our company’s information confidential?

Your company’s assessment answers and account information are stored on servers in Canada, in Montreal, reach us over an encrypted connection, and are used to prepare your assessment. Only Greenberg Hameed’s team can open your answers: the lawyers who review assessments and the people who run Global Compass. Anyone else, such as another professional for a consultation, sees them only with your consent. If you answer by voice, your browser’s own speech service turns it into text and may process it outside Canada. Google Analytics measures selected public pages automatically, except where your browser retains a recorded rejection or has Global Privacy Control enabled. Your assessment answers and account details are not sent to it. Google may process analytics information outside Canada. Your browser may provide additional cookie and privacy controls.
